Welcome to Me & You play therapy

The playroom is a special space for your child, where they can simply be themselves. Here they are not judged for how they behave but instead they experience being genuinely heard and seen for who they are underneath.

It offers an opportunity to navigate through 'big’ feelings and process any upsetting events or difficult issues in their lives. Leading to deeper understanding about what is really going on for your child.

My name is Mischa O Mahony and I am a Certified Play Therapist based in South Dublin.

Play therapy is a gentle and child-centred approach to therapy, it empowers children to express their inner world using toys and creative mediums. This is particularly helpful if they struggle to understand how they feel or struggle with big emotions such as anger, sadness, anxiety and frustration, and words fail them.

Based in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin - a space to be you.

What happens in the play room?

In the Play Therapy room, a wide variety of mediums are used, such as Art, Sand Play, Clay, Music, Puppetry, Role-Play, Messy Play, Creative Visualisation and Story-telling.

The physical space of the 'play room' combined with the trusting relationship between the child and the play therapist, transforms ordinary play into therapeutic play. It establishes a secure and inviting space where your child can address personal challenges, encounter their worries & fears, explore their genuine dreams and discover their inner strength. This transformative process positively impacts their feelings about themselves, leading to healthier ways of communication, improved emotional wellbeing and enhanced self-confidence.

Creative play provides a valuable platform for children to act/play out their experiences and ‘tell’ their stories in their own ways. Through utilisation of these artistic mediums, children often, spontaneously, revisits early traumatic or difficult experiences, facilitating opportunity for healing . This approach allows children to gently explore and unpack past events, in manageable segments, at their own pace, preventing overwhelming feelings.

Play therapy enables children to (re-)connect with themselves.  They return to a happier more regulated self, which has often been described as getting their spark back!
